This might be the least campy of the Star Trek series, due mostly in part to some great character acting by Ricardo Montalban. He steals every scene he is in and overshadows some of the series' best action scenes, as well.

One of the better films out of the "original" cast - it gets the right mix of action, drama and character. Plus, you can't go wrong with Ricardo Montalban. Overall, a great entry into the series.

"Sta Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan" by Yojimbo

Old genetically engineered adversary Khan reappears after being marooned on a desolate planet by captain Kirk 15 years previously to wreak bloody vengeance. The second big screen outing by Shatner and co was far more in the spirit of the original series than the slow moving but visually spectacular first film, and is widely regarded as the best Star Trek movie. I did not like the recent reinvention much as I found it to be a tacky exercise in cheap laughs and corny action aimed at the lowest common denominator. But the fact is, in full expectation of seeing a superior Trek film I found myself watching Wrath Of Khan through objective eyes, and as a result I also found myself realising that it isn't very good. The production design is not only dated, but also just generally poor and odd …

Second Best Star Trek film

There's really not much to put down about WoK, especially if you take it for what it is. If you take it as a campy adventure/fantasy movie with overly dramatic performances of almost operatic proportions then you are in for some fun...The one big problem for me is; one would think that the film that was considered the "greatest" film in the series would have more intellect and philosophical ideas, I'm not looking for much, it's a Star Trek film, but why is "best of the series" for the most part pure-pulp action entertainment? The only part where you even have time to stop and think is at the climax.
The Plus-Side: Great ideas all around. It really uses all the main cast to their best advantages and in the right ways. Montalban's performance as the title villain is fantastic. He's …

First great Star Trek film

With this sequel, STAR TREK proved that it could indeed be a viable franchse for the film format. Unlike its predecessor, STAR TREK II: THE WRATH OF KHAN is not dull in the least. It is a gripping, dramatic, skillfully directed (by Nicholas Meyer) feature with an engrossing plot and a memorably exciting (and heartbreaking) climax. In this "trek", a villain from an episode of STAR TREK, the super-human criminal Khan (Ricardo Montalban, in a memorably scene-chomping performance--although William Shatner's Kirk does to get do one overacted scream of "KAHN!" midway through the film), returns from five years of exile to exact revenge on Admiral Kirk and the Enterprise. Some parts of the film may be too intense or grisly, notably one sequence where Khan places disgusting eels in two officer's …
