John Candy is one of my all time favorite funnymen. He had a lot of disappointments in his career, but Summer Rental was not one of those. The fact that it wasn't a bigger hit still amazes me for the mere fact that this movie is a model of comedy movies made in the '80s. Kinda corny, kinda cheesy, yet full of family directed humor. Candy and Rip Torn were great together as potential somebody meets past almost was. Summer Rental will not disappoint those wanting to laugh and feel good at the same time.

A fine example of a John Candy comedy that hits most of the right notes. While I don't think it's quite his best comedy, it's still fun to watch and holds up much better than many other 80s comedies.

Candy delivers another funny performance in this slap-stick, everything goes wrong comedy. Not one of the best shows I've ever seen but will still give you a laugh.

He plays a man that has spent the last 20 years as an air traffic controller and he is starting to lose it. Now that he is in the middle of a nervous breakdown he is told that he has to take some time off and relax. So he takes his family on a vacation to the beach where he has rented a place to stay.
Without getting too far into it, this is one of the classic summer movies where nothing goes right, and everything that you could never dream about happening does. Everything from starting his vacation hurting his leg, to having his dog Archie drive him even more crazy, this movie is very funny. If you are a fan of John Candy you …
