"To Live and Die in L.A." is one of the best conventional cop thrillers for how it avoids cut and dry lines of morality or degenerating into chaotic shootouts. Much like how Friedkin's other darling "The French Connection" did.

Gritty to a fault but quite entertaining “cops and counterfeiters” crime drama. The car chase through L.A. traffic is exciting. The cutthroat tactics used by the heroes add to the moral ambiguity and Willem Dafoe is a good villain.
