Enjoyable fantasy scripted by George Lucas. All the usual elements are here but they're presented with visual panache and the set pieces are particularly well done. The love/hate relationship between the attractive pairing of Kilmer and Whalley also sparks particularly well (probably because of their burgeoning off-screen romance).

There are some great effects and production design, but, plot-wise, it just felt like another half-hearted, ridiculous fantasy film. Nowhere near as weighty as, say, the Lord of the Rings series.

Willow mag zwar fürchterlich ambitioniert sein, aber trotzdem kein wahnsinnig guter Film. Nie entfaltet er diese gewisse Magie, die einen wirklich grossen Fantasy Film ausmacht. Vor allem rührt das daher, dass Willow nichts Neues probiert und allzu ausgetrenen Pfaden folgt. Willow ist Standart. Dabei verheisst die Produktion Grosses: Kein Geringerer als George Lucas produzierte Willow und zwar während den 80ern als alle seinen neuesten grossen Wurf erwarteten. Ron Howard führte Regie und auch er hatte die Gemeinschaft der SciFi und Fantasy Fans hinter sich geschart, sprich grosse Vorerwartungen geweckt. Eine dicke Produktion von Industrial Light And Magic liess Hollywood wohl hoffen, die Macht möge mit Willow sein. Leider kann die Produktion noch so toll sein und trotzdem nichts …
