This movie may even be worse than Schindler's List. It is the most tasteless WWII movie out there. I saw it because I thought that maybe it would be a serious movie. Carice van Houten's singing is good in one scene, but it all goes wrong again so fast. TEN TOP WORST MOVIES OF 2007 (see list)

A young Jewish woman in wartime Holland becomes an undercover operative passing secrets to the Dutch resistance by seducing a high ranking German officer.
Based upon a true story, Black Book is not as salacious or violent as most of Paul Verhoeven’s back catalogue, known as he is for the likes of Robocop, Starship Troopers, Basic Insinct and Showgirls; it does have its share of nudity and blood but they are used in a far less gratuitous way. The story of wartime intrigue may not have the power of the likes of Schindler’s List, but its Dutch setting shows a side of the conflict that has been examined in far less detail than most and the story is suitably tense as “Ellis” uses her feminine wiles to stay one step ahead of her Nazi would-be persecutors. This is not your typical World War II movie about how Jewish people survived the Holocaust. This is more of a thriller than a drama picture, which made it more interesting. There's an incredible number of plot twists that I didn't see coming, which I must admit held my interest that much more. Still, this movie is two hours and twenty minutes long. At times it shows its audiences scenes that I don't think are that important. With such a long running time, I don't think a lot of people will be inspired to watch this movie even though it really does stand out. For a foreign film, I'm amazed at how well done it is: the props, the tone, the writing... everything. Like I said, the main (and only) problem I have about this movie is its running time.
