There's a handful of really funny jokes, but the whole thing just isn't up to par with Ferrell's other comedies.

If you are huge into basketball, be it on videos, collecting memorabilia or playing the sport, you would like to try viewing this film for obvious reasons. The humor was there however the unimpressive plot mixed with some fantasy related stuff and odd ball characters just removed its believability. Jackie Moon (Will Ferrell) is a strange person with a bit of a feminine side that plays basketball. The reference of ABA merging to the NBA was nice and all, but it just lacks the impact if based on its entirety. If your in a mood for a basketball flick with a few laughs, this is for you. Just don't think too much about it because its really not that hard to comprehend the goals of Jackie Moon.

What a Waste of Will

I was so excited to watch the new Will Ferrell movie, Semi-Pro but was just disappointed. This movie has a weak plot, poor jokes with excessive swearing and violence.

Will Ferrell does his best to inject humor into the script but his efforts are lost due to poor direction by Kent Alterman. His facial expressions, used so well in other movies such as Elf and Blades of Glory, hold the key to his humor but the audience never really get to see them close up as the camera sweeps out to show the cheap looking set and other actors.

The real opportunities for laughter come from the setting of the film in the 1970s. There are brief lines poking fun at the era such as the explanation of fondue and the huge hair styles sported by members of the cast. These however are not used to their …

E.L.E - Everybody Loves Everybody

Nobody could ever put eyeliner into good use in a basketball game except for Will Ferrel. I really think that doing sport movies is becoming a trend nowadays and Ferrel's game is certainly at its peak. Everything from the comedic stints to the script and not to mention the colorful characters, every single one of them just blended beautiful music together. Who would have thought that an ex SNL goof ball could ever be a race car driver, an ice skating champ and a basketball semi pro in one lifetime. Andre Benjamin was a surprise for me. He could try something a little dark next time and win an acting award because he’s certainly got that actor’s niche. Woody Harelson also brought his “A” game and mixed a different blend of drama in this movie. Overall Semi pro has about 80 …

Not Ferrell's best, but still enjoyable

For a person with a lot of basketball knowledge, not only with the game itself but also the history of the game, I took more from this movie than average Will Ferrell fan.

An interesting concept with the made up ABA team 'Flint Tropicals'. Set in the time when the ABA existed and was being absorbed by the NBA, Will Ferrell's character makes a last ditch effort to bring his team into the NBA by bringing in Woody Harrelson and doing crazy things to bring in fans.

Not much depth to the movie, but what movie does with Will Ferrell? The 'R' rating was a bit surprising before I went to the movie, but quickly confirmed by the insane amount of F-Bombs and other nasty language. However, I am a fan of the lack of pot references.

There's a bear, a song sang by Will Ferrell, and a …
