A reasonable commentary on the exploitation of the media for personal gain, "Ace in the Hole" remains both relevant and thought-provoking.

Kirk Douglas plays a ruthless reporter milking the publicity surrounding a cave-in accident for all it's worth. Jan Sterling plays the wife of the man trapped underground and who would guess that she is as equally unscrupulous. Dark comedy, social satire, and unlikable characters run amok in 'ACE IN THE HOLE'.

Writer/Director Wilder takes his terrific noir sensibilities from 'Double Indemnity' and places them in a story about journalism. Kirk Douglas awesomely plays a callous newspaper writer looking to exploit a situation for his own selfish career boost. The film is drenched in a cynical atmosphere that pays off as coldly as you would expect. A good story made all the better with angry statements about the circus of media brought on by unsavory journalism.
