"Don't Look Now" is a psychological thriller unlike many that have been made or ever will. It's a haunting film about two parents who experience a devastating loss, then find themselves trapped by their own dread.

Kafka and Lovecraft unite in a tale that plumbs the depths of inexplicability and looks with derision upon the linear narrative, and the result is not exactly... 'fun'. Bewilderment, fear, and unease will all be experienced in commensurate dosages as the demented editing slowly drives you to the brink of insanity. Yet, for reasons even more inexplicable than the movie itself, the inclement experience of viewing this film only serves to elevate it's cult status as the elegantly executed metaphysical shocker that it is. The whole thing's a mystery, really.

Tipo de experiência intensa – inusitada no circuito mainstream contemporâneo, mas não na criativamente pujante década de 70 - cuja imersão provém do elevado grau de abstração exercitado por um diretor disposto a desbravar as possibilidades da gramática fílmica. Por ser ostensivamente elíptico (o tour de force editorial demonstrado na abertura arrepiante prenuncia uma obra-prima do horror), a intuição do espectador é encorajada com regularidade, induzindo-o a interligar eventos estranhos, à primeira vista desconectados. O clima fantasmagórico e agourento abarca premonições, serial killers, fantasmas, incidentes, vidência. Roeg pinta lindas telas de uma Veneza para lá de ameaçadora. Vale a pena testar os limites dos nervos e a tenacidade do coração para descobrir.
