This movie is well-acted and well-shot, but it suffers from being based on a screenplay by well-known bad writer and crap character developer Ayn Rand. The characters do complete 180s multiple times and in the hands of a more talented writer, this might be character nuance or development, but in the hands of Rand it just seems like they might be schizophrenic. The ideas behind the film are lofty (independence, fighting conformity, etc.) and heavy-handed, utterly without grace or subtlelty. The dialogue is laughable. The actors do what they can with their stupid and one-dimensional characters, but this source material doesn't do anyone any favors.

It pales grotesquely compared to the book, even though Ayn Rand wrote both the script and book. She really dumbed it down for Hollywood.
