Plot: A group of archaeologists uncover a tomb containing the Scroll of Thoth. One man opens the scroll and goes mad when he discovers it brought an ancient mummy back to life. Now free, the mummy seeks the companionship of his ancient lover, whom he believes is reborn in the body of a young half-Egyptian woman.

It owes a lot to "Dracula," which it seems very much influenced by, but "The Mummy" is a credit in it own right thanks to its dark and mystical story and one of Karloff's greatest performances.

The original. Seems like way more than 72 minutes. Dreamy, moody, mysterious. Superior to all the remakes (though the Brandon Fraser one is fun and action-packed). .
