Marlon Brando plays a guerilla leader who rose to power during the Mexican Revolution. The powerhouse pairing of director Elia Kazan and author-writer John Steinbeck gives 'VIVA ZAPATA!' a thoughtful introspective tone.

Don't pay attention to the faux ratings of skater4159. This script was written by John Steinbeck and brilliantly executed by Elia Kazan. Worth watching.

Revolution after revolution

A somewhat successful film about revolutionaries that has a distinct pattern. The farmers complain about their land being taken then the president does nothing Zapata and his pals hold a revolution always off screen than they celebrate eventually Zapata is made president of Mexico but even he finds he briefly misuses the powers so he holds one more revolution to a different end. A film that repeats itself over and over again but it is acted well enough despite the non Mexican actors, and interesting enough to watch once.
Oscar win Best Supporting Actor Anthony Quinn 3/5- This is really just standard Anthony Quinn supporting performance. He is good and effective but there is nothing special about his performance either.
Oscar nomination Best Actor Marlon Brando 2/5- Brando here …
