A great premise for a superhero satire that winds up only moderately entertaining. Will Smith is very good as the burned out cynical hero-in-name-only Hancock. The first half was an interesting take on the familiar comic book plot. But then that twist happens and things are freaking weird. It's more serious than the first section and that isn't much fun.

Starts out strong but gets worse and worse as it progresses. An inane plot twist in the middle sets the film up for failure in a big way, leaving an overall feeling of disappointment at what could have been an epic.

"Hancock" by Yojimbo

Hancock is a superhero. He's also a bum and a drunk. Until one day he saves the life of a PR guru who sets about helping him change his image. This film is an odd one. The fact that it stars Will Smith and is packed with SFX also belies the fact it has quite a quirky "indie" feel to it, and Jason Bateman's presence certainly adds to this. It's actually a great premise; the whole idea that just because someone has super powers doesn't mean they can't be a waster and the first half of the film has a lot of very funny, inventive moments to the point where I was convinced I was seeing a future favourite. Unfortunately half way through it abandons the original idea and throws in a ridiculous back story and excuse for his existence which to be honest, I didn't really feel it needed. It …

Hancock is a fun ride, filled with a few good laughs but basically a borrowed story(superman) and plenty of borrowed action scenes. I like peter berg's movies, I like that he knows how to tell a story and delivers good visuals in his films. I like Will Smith, i think he's a good actor, but it bothers me that most of his films rely to much on special effects, judging from his other work (The Pursuit of Happiness, Ali.), he's capable of making good films, I'd like to see more of those. With that said, I think his performance is good and is a lot of fun to watch. Charlize Theron and Jason Bateman are good too. It's the story that leaves a lot to be desired and the ending is highly disappointing. Those two things keep this film from hitting a bullseye. Sadly, It's more of the norm, from the …

I Knew I Shouldn't Have Watched It!

This movie is pretty terrible and the trailers reflected that. This picture not only suffers from a lack of focus but also a lack of aim and resolution. I feel like the filmmakers were coming up with ideas right on the spot as it went along. With a confusing backstory, it was hard for me to care for the characters. I know that the filmmakers are trying to make a funny superhero movie that doesn’t take itself too seriously. I believe they could have made that kind of film with a better script, visual effects, and with just the right balance of tone and pace. Not even the star power of Will Smith, Charlize Theron, and Jason Bateman could save this wreck. Smith’s character was annoying and I felt like I didn’t know anything about him; Theron’s character was moody the whole time; the …
