A bit more lackluster than the rivaling Pixar film "A Bug's Life," but it isn't without a smart message and a few good lines.

Another Mediocre Dreamworks Film
JLFM - wrote on 06/26/2012
For the first 10 minutes, Antz made me smile, sometimes laugh, and for the most part, was quite enjoyable. My doubts towards the usually mediocre Dreamworks had faded; but only for a little bit. The quality dropped just a wee bit after the first 10 minutes, but I was still enjoying myself. The film holds up for another 20 minutes, and then it's rarely amusing again.
The main character, Z, is tired of having decisions made for him. He doesn't want to be a worker, and he's sick of being forced to things he doesn't want to do. Through a crazy chain of events, Z becomes a war hero, is accused for kidnapping Princess Bala, and ultimately, begins his journey to Insectopia, where he can make his own decisions, and live in paradise.
After the first 30 minutes, Antz decides to movie the …

Much better than "A Bug's Life"

I really enjoyed "Antz" more than "A Bug's Life". The story, acting and visuals were much better in this movie by far.
The computer graphics are simply marvelous. The details of the surroundings and the insects are amazing. The animators went as far as creating reflections and other small details that, to me, made the world of the insects very believable, unlike the cartoonish look of "A Bug's Life".
Woody Allen was perfectly cast for the role of "Z". This is probably his best movie since his 1983 movie "Zelig". I also believe that Sharon Stone, Sylvester Stallone and especially Gene Hackman were cast perfectly.
Each actor brought their characters to life. Every one of them got the viewer(s) to care, or detest, their character. The dialog was well written and all the actors …

Review - Antz (1998)

Z (Woody Allen) was a neurotic worker ant that was sick of having the same job and doing the same thing everyday. When he met Princess Bala (Sharon stone), he instantly fell in love. Now, with Bala, his friends Azteca (Jennifer Lopez) and Weaver (Sylvester Stallone) must take down the overbearing General Mandible (Gene Hackman) in "Antz."
With the huge names like Stallone and Hackman, it's no wonder the animation suffered budget problems. While the film is much more detailed than anything of its time, the actual movement is glitchy and almost done in a test project sense, which the film really was, in essence.
The amazing part about this film is how they passed it off as a childrens' movie. What with constant swearing and Allen talking about "erotic fantasies," it's no wonder it …
