A scarred and wanted bounty hunter is given a chance for redemption when the military tasks him with stopping a man bent on releasing Hell on Earth. I got to say that Josh Brolin was a good casting choice for this movie but that's it the movie sucks ass and it stinks of shit.

Jonah Hex: a little like True Grit meets Superman

Not bad but not Jonah Hex either. The movie itself isn't horrible but it needs to be separated from its comic book roots.Josh Brolin was a good choice for the lead but he was handed a script that makes Jona Hex into a reluctant super hero. Jonah Hex is the toughest bounty hunter in the world with a conscience that often gets the better of him, He doesn't need an evil mastermind or a diabolical super weapon and he definitly doesn't need to be talking to the dead.
watch this film with an open mind. It may wind up a cult classic or a guilty pleasure.
if you want to know the real character, go to the comic shop and find any back issues written by Jay Palmiotti. Or better yet, don't...the film may be better received if you walk into it without the preconceived notions

"Jonah Hex" by Yojimbo

When an ex-Confederate soldier is brought back from the brink of death by Indian medicine men he finds himself virtually unkillable and able to reanimate the dead with his touch. Based upon the popular DC comic book series, Jonah Hex is little more than a generic western with a bit of post modern weaponry thrown in. In fact the combination of steam punk technology and cowboys makes it look all the world like the depressingly juvenile Wild Wild West with a sense of humour by-pass. Josh Brolin is adequate as the laconic gunslinger but the plot is totally lacking in imagination (bad guy kills his family, blood vendetta, kidnapped girlfriend, big shoot out blah blah blah). The effects adequate and there are a couple of decent shoot outs but it takes itself far too seriously leaving this …

All potential, little substance!

The movie takes place in the south during the Civil War where our antihero Jonah Hex was left for dead by Captain Turnbull (John Malkovich), a man who disfigured Jonah and murdered his family while Jonah watched. He's rescued by Indians and brought back to life. The near death experience has left him with an ability to communicate with the dead. Hex is understandably consumed by revenge after the death of his family, but as Turnbull was apparently killed he is unable to avenge them.
This leaves Hex with a nasty disposition. He becomes a hard cased bounty hunter who makes enemies everywhere and has a price on his head until President Ulysses S. Grant (Aidan Quinn) himself decides he needs Jonah Hex to hunt down and find Turnbull (surprise surprise he staged his death and is very much …
