In what can be interpreted as the male equivalent of "Carrie," this middle-shelf King adaptation gets decent... errr... mileage... out of its off the wall concept and is good for many of the same reasons that teen horror classic is great.

"Her name's Christine." "I like that." 'Christine', like most Carpenter movies is an under-appreciated thrill ride with a twisted sense of humor. Solid performances, excellent score and John Carpenter can any movie stylistic despite the absurd concept. However, I wish Harry Dean Stanton had more to do.

I remember the lead overreacting in most scenes, which makes it laughable instead of scary. The car had more personality than the characters present. Pace of the whole film was sluggish though there were a few spooky moments particularly when the car was brought to life. Christine could have been better if it had believable artists, better dialogue and the element of suspense.
