The thing about this movie is that it's a sum of its parts. That is, the individual character moments and meditations on life and love are more connective than the film as a whole, which follows a pretty disorganized and sprawling plot. Excellent cinematography (some beautiful shots) and a strong use of music, particularly for an Asian film.

This wasn't horrible, but I'm glad it wasn't the first Wong Kar-Wai film I saw. I doubt it would have led me to see more. And then I would have missed out on "In the Mood for Love," "My Blueberry Nights" and "2046," which would have been a shame.

Great soundtrack, characters, style, fragmented plot and all around enjoyable movie. I can't find anything I don't love about it and this remains my favorite movie by master director Kar Wong Wai.

Very stylish direction, nice locations and sincere acting, Chungking Express is a very good drama with bits of humor injected coupled with some likable characters. If only there were more clarity and direction to the figures on the first story and a bit more action on both, then this would have been …
