I heard this had a very small budget. It makes you appreciate it more. This is more of a romance movie than sci-fi. It is OK. Check it out if you are looking for something different.

Better then I expected but still not as good as I hoped.I guess I was hoping it was gonna be as good as District 9 but it didn't even come close.District 9 was definitely a way better movie.Maybe it's because I'm not into Sci Fi movies or maybe it's because there weren't enough monsters in Monsters

Looks like a programme on Travel channel.

Post-apocalyptic movies normally attract my attention and enchant me in general. It shouldn't necessarily be a movie where you are treated all the time with images of total destruction, oncoming hordes of aliens or virus mutated zombies. But this movie really was a slow nerve provoking film that looked more like a road movie or a travelogue on Travel channel that was poured into a cinematic form.
A large part of the film is used to show how the two main characters, a press photographer and the daughter of a newspaper magnate who somehow ended up in South America, are moving from place to place to reach a secure America lying behind immense walls. This travel-images are then interspersed with images of them staring to the horizons, beautiful nature images and impressions, inadequate …

"Monsters" by Yojimbo

A photo journalist is grudgingly charged with escorting his boss' daughter through the "infected zone" of central America which has become home for a race of huge alien creatures. Although the DVD cover screeches "THRILLING" and "ACTION PACKED", anyone misguided enough to be hoping for Cloverfield 2 will be mightily disappointed. Monsters is more a road movie that just happens to feature creatures from outer space and reminded me more of a cross between The African Queen and Jurassic Park, with the occasional nod to Apocalypse Now. The actual content is hardly original but the approach is refreshingly different in that it doesn't concentrate on the sci-fi aspect of the story, instead focusing on the protagonists and it has quite a nice "screw with nature at your own peril" subtext plus …

Monsters review

The camera direction was very similar to Cloverfield. Samantha and Andrew friendship grew in a violent environment coupled with so many limitations to go to places which symbolizes political undertones. The haunting score brings the thrilling scenes life. The effects and set locations were realistic. If only there were more variety to the octopus like creatures, better character build-up and exciting moments, then I would have rated this much higher. The cinematography, acting and soundtrack was phenomenal, if only the screen play was better. Lines like "I'm going to be a meteorologist, because it's the only job where I can be wrong every day, and not get fired." and "I don't want to go home." make the film worthwhile. The ending was definitely worth waiting for and Monsters could …
