Loved the acerbic/absurdist first half, but the plot got bogged down in melodrama during the second half and became much more conventional.

Not a bad film, but a bit dry and morose for my tastes. Still, keep an eye on Craig Roberts - he delivers a good performance and should have a good future ahead of him based on this movie alone.

Craig Roberts, der Oliver Tate spielt, den Helden aus Submarine, sieht aus wie ein junger Poet: Neugierig und sich selbst äusserst wichtig nehmend. Er ist aber auch ein junger Teenager, noch jungfräulich und verunsichert. Oliver passt wie angegossen zum Film, der einen typisch britischen Tonfall anschlägt. Gedreht wurde in Swansea, Wales. Manchmal dachte ich, Oliver sei selbst der Autor seines eigenen Biopics (so gut passen Film und Hauptdarsteller zusammen!). Die Angebetete von Oliver heisst Jordana Bevan (Yasmin Paige). Jordana weiss, dass nur wenige Teenager das Zeug haben zum selbstbewussten Anführer, während all die anderen ein Leben lang an sich zweifeln. Jordana ist nicht besonders schön, auch hat sie genauso wenig sexuelle Erfahrung wie Oliver. Im Gegensatz zu ihm ist sie …
