I's weird to see Besson trying to emulate the styles of Malick and Aronofsky. This started out strong with a unique concept until it became Matrixlike. Scarlett Johanssen was precisely suited for the role and Morgan Freeman solid as always. Its a huge departure from other Besson pictures because of the science fiction and loaded special effects. Only the action sequences and some provocative lines were the only highlights here.

...now. this is "Akira". no doubt about it. I like S.J. here and "Under the skin". Not blown minded, but entertained. Also one can fallow some of the questions she actually does not answer; all here is knowledge, not meaning.

I loved parts of this movie.

"Life was given to us a billion years ago. Now you know what to do with it."

Is Lucy the result of a scientifically based theory or should she join the club of "by chemicals mutated superheroes" like Spiderman, The Hulk and Captain America? We can remove the first item of the list because the theory of us only using 10% of our brains is complete nonsense. That would mean that there's 90% of unexplored territory for grabs in our upper chamber. The risk of brain injury shrinks. And would our skull not be too wide for that small part? Isn't it true that evolution slightly adjusts things so that there's an optimum use of certain features? The second item comes closer to the phenomenon of "Lucy", just that no startling changes were made. No flashy superheroes costume or superhuman …

"Lucy" by Yojimbo

An ordinary young woman who is press-ganged into becoming a mule for organised criminals is exposed to the effects of the experimental drug she is carrying and develops super-human powers. Luc Besson's latest is essentially Limitless crossed with Crank as Scarlett Johansson engages in a race against time to reclaim the drug and punish her abductors before her body burns out. Quite how gaining full control of your brain would turn you into a telekinetic, mind reading, gravity defying terminator is never quite clear, despite the fact that Morgan Freeman pops up at regular intervals to explain the plot to the audience. So yes, Lucy is very, very silly, even by Besson's standards and his pretensions to "exploring the nature of human evolution" which deliberately (and somewhat embarrassingly) …

interesting film about a woman who gets forced to smuggle drugs thats are put inside her it leaks and turns her into a super human who can use 100% of her brain. its like the recent johnny depp movie with that kind of idea but alot lot better . its very arty with the scenes of animals and the comparisons to humans and how we dont use all of our brains and makes you think what would happen if we could ,
thought provoking movie but with flaws. the bad guys are cliche and just wrong. the beginning is all too weird and rather silly they could of thought of abetter way to do it, action etc is all rather tame stuff.
hard to decide whether to place this movie as good or just ok, i will go with ok i think as its worth watching and i liked the idea i just wish everything round the character …

I quite liked it. Think he was going for a type of comic book feel. Can def tell director is European. I can see how critics would hive it a hard time though.
