If there is one positive thing that no one can take away from this movie, it's the casting and how much it pays off. If it did not work, the by-the-numbers plot taken from so many other courtroom drama films would be so painful. Instead, 'The Judge' is quite entertaining and sometimes even moving. It's one of those movies that calculates the exact moment to tug at your emotions and odds are, it might just work. I recognized many of these instances. Did it work on me? Sometimes but not every time. Otherwise this might be a four star review and also if it worked on me all the time in other situations, I might actually be considered viable boyfriend material (ribshot).

Brilliant performances, a bit overly melodramatic.

“The law is the only thing capable of making people equal”

Hank Palmer (Robert Downey Jr.) is a shrewd and successful lawyer with a smooth tongue. A chatterbox that overwhelms you with its arguments and you can't get in a word edgeways. He uses arguments and counter-arguments in such a natural way, as if he's ordering something to eat at a sandwich bar. Therefore for some he's an insufferable person who does not mince his words. My favorite scene is the confrontation with some drunk local figures in a local bar where he and his two brothers Glen (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Dale (Jeremy Strong) chat about lost times. The way he gives those windbags tit for tat and knows how to silence them, is a perfect representation of who the person Hank Palmer is. This piece reminded me a bit of …

Judge this book by it's cover

"The Judge" sports a talented cast but unfortunately they're at the mercy of watered down bland TV movie of the week script. There is some good interaction between Downey and Duvall but with their limited resources it's hard for even these seasoned Vets to pull this above an average movie. Cheesy Moments (See Dax Shepard's role) are mixed with a couple poignant moments with Duvall who once again shows that he is one of the greats of his generation. When it comes to the Core of the film it never evolves enough to land the emotional punch it seems to seek throughout. Good performances help keep it afloat but in the end it treads water in it's mediocrity.

Average Time filler worth watching for some Pro's giving it their all but fails in the end with a cliched script and Direction …

Court and law with the Robert's.

Two Roberts in one movie about court and law. Should be interesting.

The movie is about a hotshot lawyer returns to his how town after his father, the town judge, is accused of murder. While seeking the truth behind the crime, he also tries to reconnect with his estranged family.

Robert Downey Jr. and Robert Duvall both did a excellent performance in this movie. I like they back and forward with each other as they are both fantastic actors, and in this movie there's no different that their talent always shines up on the big screen with glory. The writing in the movie was also good and as I said before about the father and son back and forward dialogue was written really well, and I got to give Nick Schenk and Bill Dubuque credit for doing that.

Vera Farmiga character in the …

Slow - I could tell from the first trailer this was going to be an over-dramatic slog. I don't care if you have talent, this just looks like a bummer of a film.

2h and some...ruin and misery. long and not dramatic. there is nothing for me to recomand it to someone else. cliche and empty dialog.
