David Gordon Green once again takes us into the rural South, this time with a hot poker iron of a Southern Gothic redemption story heightened by terrific performances from Nicholas Cage and Tye Sheridan.

'Joe' contains all flawed characters, supremely acted by the whole cast, that paint a closer representation of the backwoods life. There seems to be a dead end at every turn, but that little glimmer of hope keeps some going. Those with good intentions, that is. The 'bad' characters do some truly terrible things. But I guess they have to since our main ones make their own bad choices. Their troubled pasts make it harder for them, understandably so. The overall story is just okay. It shows it's wear with a slightly overlong predictable ending. The rest leading up is solid and much worth the drama.

R.I.P. Gary Poulter. This movie has fantastic acting and great directing, the characters are enjoyable to watch on screen and Nicolas Cage is back to great stuff.

A real-life quote from Gary Poulter :
The script called for somebody that looked like "An old man, alcoholic, prone to violence, who looked like the aftermath of a human disaster." My first day of shooting when I went to hair and make up. I asked the woman "Bridgette" "Do you need to do anything with my appearance?" She said "No you're good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" LOL.
After seeing "Outcast", "Tokarev" and "The Runner", I wondered which movie it was where Nicolas Cage once more excelled in, before his career went downhill. And I can say with certainty that "Joe" is his last achievement before his acting went down the drain. This film proves what he's capable of and once again demonstrates his brilliant acting talent. It's not "Leaving Las Vegas" (but close) and there won't be an Oscar …

Slow and grim and far to long

a very slow drama movie that had me bored most of the way through it., its a very long movie with a very simple story about a kid and his alchoholic father in texas, with nicolas cage playing the a guy who befriends the kid and gives him work .but has he's own troubles.
its all very slow and grim ,it reminds me out of the furnace and mud.yet without their grit .The music on this movie is really depressing as well, the whole tone is just grim. The acting is fine and cage is doing a proper acting role for once but i wish he would of picked something better.
There is a slight play off ending for watching it all but its not one i cared about too much, overall the story felt like it could of been said in 10 minutes but instead was dragged out over 2 hours plus.
