A great throwback as well as an outstanding comeback for fans of seasons and 1 through 3. A moderate 3 out of 4.

There are sequences in this film that, like the show, will force one to think they're on acid. In other words, it's kind of fun. "Sponge Out of Water" offers edgy entertainment for 90 minutes that will be completely forgotten once it comes to an end.

Who known that a SpongeBob Movie produce by Nickelodeon film would actually turn out not as terrible as I thought it will just because of Nickelodeon track record of the last couple years.
The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water is about a very important recipe goes missing, Spongebob jumps out of 2D and into our 3D world to retrieve it. But it's not going to be easy getting it back, as a scurvy pirate stands between Spongebob and the recipe.

This sequel marks a definite improvement over the previous SpongeBob film. The story, characters, and humor harken back to the early days of the television show. This is partly due to involvement from the show's creators. There are many funny jokes involving weird/gross detailed animation and wacky/bizarre moments. The film goes in areas not expected. I laughed quite often at the fun absurdness. Most all of the main characters get their screen time. It's fairly enjoyable. The live-action bits were okay interruptions during the first two-thirds, but the (almost full) third act looses steam when the animated troop are rendered 3D in a real-world setting.
