Entertaining sequel to The Maze Runner. Wasn't quite expecting it to shift into a zombie horror film in the second act but that was interesting. If people weren't buying the love story, there's a twist in the third act that makes it stand out from other Y/A movies. For the budget, the visuals were impressive. The returning cast's friendship remains strong enough. But Giancarlo Esposito was a riot and easily the best part of the movie. Unfortunately, the villains remain unimpressive.

While I can't complain about this film diverging completely from the book because I haven't read them - I can complain that this sequel pretty much ignores everything from the first film and turns into some kind of futuristic zombie runner with a bunch of stuff happening, yet nothing getting resolved at all. A bunch of new people are introduced, there's a lot of action yet I'm left feeling a bit empty as just because there's a lot going on doesn't mean there's much worth remembering.

Continued Sequel Setup and Lots More Running

The first 'Maze Runner' was a decent mystery/action-thriller that was brought down by a lackluster payoff and poor characters. Well, this second outing doesn't improve on either of those things. This is essentially the same movie, only minus the mystery. We find out that the absurd reasonings for the Maze testing (revealed at the end of the first) don't really matter when the overall goal involves using the teens' bodies for science. It's a stupid revelation that makes the whole proceedings amount to very little. There's barely a story present this time. The entire movie consists of the main hero kids running from one safe place to another. It's a series of set-pieces that are taken from numerous other action/sci-fi movies. The action is well shot and comes close to thrilling at …

The sand castles and mazes.

So I've just seen "Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials" and it was pretty average. Theses a lot of things that I liked in the movie and these a lot I didn't like. Dylan O'Brine did a decent job playing the main lead in the movie, as he basically carried this whole movie just like in the first movie. The first …
