Gosling may indeed be a superb lead and David Strathairn may be a very memorable supporting player as the district attorney to Los Angeles, but 'Fracture' has neither villain nor script of marked quality to fully utilize those assets; Hopkins has been some much better. That being noted, the film is a relatively competent work that does pique one's interest for the most part.

"I will break your spirit".

Ted Crawford: "Even a broken clock is right twice a day". The movie is about a man who discovers that his beautiful younger wife, Jennifer, is having an affair, he plans her murder--the perfect murder. Among the cops arriving at the crime scene is hostage negotiator Detective Rob Nunally, the only officer permitted entry to the house. Surprisingly, Crawford readily admits to shooting his wife, but Nunally is too stunned to pay close attention when he recognizes his lover, whose true identity he never knew, lying on the floor in a pool of blood. The movie opening was sold. Showing everything in …

He shoots his cheating spouse Jennifer when he discovers that she is having an affair with a police detective confessing to the cops he did it and awaits his trial with an unnatural calming demeanor. The rest of the story - and excitement - is about his devilishly clever scheme to get away with it.

Enter Assistant District Attorney Willy Beachum (Ryan Gosling) who believes he has a slam-dunk case and agrees to go to trial. What Beachum thought was a perfectly simple case ends up being a battle of wits and a psychological fight that takes him to his breaking point in his attempt to put the cool and calculating intellectual behind bars. Ryan Gosling …

Theodore "Ted" Crawford (Anthony Hopkins), a rich engineer, witnesses his wife Jennifer (Embeth Davidtz) having an affair with a police detective namely Robert Nunally (Billy Burke). Ted gets home early to the surprise of Jennifer. He shoots her and confronts Robert. In the trial, Ted asks William "Willy" Beachum (Ryan Gosling) for legal representation.

Camera work was spectacular. Screenplay was enlightening with a few quotes: Ted – “You look closely enough, you'll find that everything has a weak spot where it can break, sooner or later.” “You're a winner, Willy.” Pace of the film slows down when Willy tried to search for the evidence and fooling around with his soon to be boss, which is preposterous in actuality. Anthony Hopkins was solid as always. Fracture is a …
