The first Cloverfield, which came out back in 2008, was a crazy good found-footage thrill ride that introduced a scary new movie monster to the world. Its sequel, 10 Cloverfield Lane, was a tense piece of Hitchcockian greatness with a less-than-stellar last-minute Cloverfield tie-in. The Cloverfield Paradox, the new chapter in this anthology franchise, is just boring and confusing, featuring a franchise tie-in that doesn't make a whole lot of sense. The film's attractive cast and popping visuals fail to save the lousy script, which is utterly devoid of tension, engaging characters and genuine surprises.

If you go into this pretending it has absolutely nothing to do with any other Cloverfield movies, this is actually a decent sci-fi with a great cast, some freaky scenes and a quasi-intelligent plot. But trying to muscle it into the Cloverfield universe is just sloppy - it would work much better as a stand alone alternate reality film with no ties to an established series. The Cloverfield hate is justified, but overall it's not as bad as I was expecting.

Cloverfield Paradox convolutes the Cloverfield universe more than ever with cringe-worthy writing. Wasting the beautiful effect and great acting! Thanks Netflix for not making spend $25 dolars on this garbage! 4/10 Check out my full review on youtube here: https://youtu.be/n63SEy9c0Pw

A space station undergoing a scientific experiment with particle acceleration suffers an overload and the crew suddenly find themselves…elsewhere.
The first semi-sequel to found-footage monster movie Cloverfield snuck in under the radar and was surprisingly good. This follow-up was similarly unheralded but met with a reception which was rather less friendly. Essentially another Alien-style thriller, The Cloverfield Paradox actually has far more in common with cult sci-fi horror hybrid Event Horizon in premise, although it lacks that film’s atmospheric photography and ornate production design. The main drawback is in its attempt to tie up the three films into a coherent whole, which it singularly fails to do. The hostile reception however was more to do with the distinct lack of …

Without the Cloverfield link, it would be better

“If you go… you and I will survive.
I’m afraid if you don’t …
No one will.”
“Cloverfield” was a unique film. Lots of fans were looking forward to a sequel to this amusing found footage monster film. The sequel “10 Cloverfield lane” came 8 years later. It didn’t feel like this film had anything to do with the initial film. Till the end of the movie. It’s clear this one was situated after the events from “Cloverfield“. And then suddenly this Netflix release pops up from nowhere. “The Cloverfield Paradox” tries to explain why all that shit started to happen in Manhattan. Yep, again it’s about prequel and sequel stuff. And there’s nothing I hate more than prequel and sequel nonsense. It’s obvious this movie tries to connect with the original …
