The first "Spider-Man" film built into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, "Homecoming" is an energetic superhero romp that left me desiring the inevitable sequel.

"Spider-Man: Homecoming" by Yojimbo

Feeling that he is being ignored by Tony Stark who is clearly blind to his full potential, Peter Parker embarks upon a mission to stop a gang who are stealing alien technology and weaponising it for sale to the highest bidder.
With the appearance of the ubiquitous Iron Man and the accompanying hi-tec spider suit, there was a real danger that the latest Spidey film would become yet another gizmo-infested CGI smackdown, but thanks to hugely likeable characters and a script that contains some genuine wit, Homecoming is not only highly entertaining but also a lot less po-faced than many of its predecessors. The high school setting – although cliched – works really well and consciously harks back to the feelgood John Hughes movies of the 1980’s and Tom Holland and his nerdy sidekick …

So what was the point of calling it Homecoming?

Spider-Man: Homecoming is an energetic, exciting, and overall entertaining superhero movie that sees the hero return to his roots after a botched reboot series. Tom Holland shines as a suitable actor for the role of Peter Parker while Michael Keaton is simply chilling as the fiendish winged supervillain The Vulture. The movie does feature an appearance from Iron Man (RDJ) as Spider-Man's mentor but RDJ doesn't overshadow Holland's performance.
The action is creative and takes full advantage of the advances made since the Sam Raimi trilogy ten years ago. The supporting cast is pretty big even for a superhero movie with a lot of surprise appearances for certain characters. Some make the most of their screen time like Donald Glover or Jon Favreau or Laura Harrier. Others are shortchanged …

A Welcome Homecoming

I didn't know if we'd ever get Spider-Man in the MCU, but thanks to a lot of wrangling (and I'm sure a lot of money), Civil War gave us our first look at the newest would-be Avenger. This is the third outing for Spider-Man, following Sam Raimi's 2002-2007 trilogy and the attempted Amazing Spider-Man reboot. I was worried that casting someone younger would be risky, but Tom Holland proved in his short time on Civil War he was a great choice - and his first solo outing doesn't disappoint.
Luckily, we can skip the origin story this time around. We all know about the spider bite and what follows. Homecoming starts off with Peter Parker documenting his involvement with The Avengers during the events of Civil War. Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau, reprising his Iron Man role) is essentially his …

It is a good movie but I myself enjoyed the Amazing Spiderman more.

One of the better Spider-Man movies for sure (I still think Spider-Man 2 is the the best) - certainly better than the attempted Amazing Spider-Man reboots. I really liked the casting choices and can't wait to see how they continue this series.

It's going to be hard to top Wonder Woman - I wouldn't usually pick DC over Marvel, but this year it's going to be tough to top.
