Bradley Cooper proves he's as adept behind the camera as in front of it as A Star is Born. With some amazing chemistry with power-house co-star Lady Gaga and a great turn from Sam Elliott, the casting is top-notch as is the music, led by the chart-topping "Shallow". Uplifting, emotional and tragic - it's all here and is more than worth your time.

Capturing the essence of modern culture while still encapsulating the timeless themes from previous adaptations of its iconic story, this third remake of "A Star is Born" is a jewel of a crowd-pleaser.

Powerfully acted musical drama that also serves as a stellar directorial debut by Bradley Cooper. However, I feel like there was a misleading marketing that suggested this as a feel-good romance and while it has such moments, this is honestly a more solemn drama that deals as much with substance abuse and the fame induced stress. Still, well done Mr. Cooper.

A Star is Born - Review

"Maybe it's time to let the old ways die."
'A Star Is Born' is a depressing look on love, drugs and rock n roll, but will occasionally stumble into some cliche moments with the main message shooting itself in the foot. I mean, the whole "if you’re talented, but don’t have anything to say", which is just this movie. Nothing new is said at all. However, as soon as the credits rolled, I was left speechless. A mishmash of emotions that left me drained.
Bradley Cooper is absolutely excellent as the talented, yet deeply troubled Jack. Every time Cooper is on screen, I really bought him as the alcoholic rock star. The way he carries himself throughout with his mumble speech was totally believable. I don't know what’s more impressive: This is Cooper’s directorial debut or his …

Humor helps to soften the blow in 'A Star is Born'

Humor helps to soften the blow in Bradley Cooper’s directorial debut, "A Star is Born." When Jackson Maine (Cooper) puts the moves on Ally (Lady Gaga) he does everything from peeling off her false eyebrow to insisting that she admire the shape of her nose as greatly as he does. The laughter ensues. There is also great fun to be had in the company of Ally’s friends and coworkers, some of whom share the stage with her at the bar where she sings.
Anyone who has ever worked a dead-end job for a demeaning boss and daydreamed about wanting something better is sure to be swept away by the fantasy of the film. Cooper and Gaga not only have tremendous chemistry, but also find a way to create an on-screen romance replete with the stuff that off-screen romances are truly made …
