While incredibly flawed, but it's just refreshing that we finally got a live action Transformers movie that wasn't directed by Michael Bay. It at least opens new doors for other film markers to come in and make something decent, hopefully. And man, Hailee Steinfeld really gave it her all in this.

Certainly better than the last three Transformers films, Bumblebee has a lot of heart and switching out Michael Bay for Travis Knight was the right idea. Hailee Steinfeld makes a good lead and the 80s setting brings back the sweet nostalgia factor (especially that soundtrack). It's not perfect but it is a step in the right direction and we'll see if the series can get back to something interesting aside from mindless action.

One of 2018's biggest surprises is that the Transformers spin-off BUMBLEBEE is actually pretty good. Hailee Stenfeld really sells the friendship formed between her and the giant robot. It takes one too many cues from Brad Bird's classic THE IRON GIANT though. Still it's a return to form for a long running film series.
