This military adventure is seriously bogged down with war movie cliches, being based as it is upon a novel by airport paperback hack Alistair MacLean. But the star presence of Peck, Quinn and Niven elevates it above the mundane.

A guns Navarone is an entertaining world war 2 thriller. It is not as good as where eagles dare both come from the same writer for their source material. It is entertaining to watch the mission go through its moments with many exciting and tension filled spots. A problem with it is the anti war seen that do not come from the novel. They cause a plot hole and when two of the characters die they die because of this, and it seemed very forced. Not to mention the speeches thrown in poorly that are short. But I did like the movie overall and still found it entertaining. Just if you want to make an anti war film make one, i suggest a war besides world war two but if your making a war thriller make one.
