The film succeeds because Taron Egerton makes a fantastic Elton John - both in manner and singing - and the song choices, and the scenes around them, work wonders. Sure, it's not a traditional biopic as much of what is portrayed is pure fantasy, but I think it helps, not hinders, this particular life. Add in some find support from the likes of Jamie Bell and Richard Madden and this R-rated fairytale of a life is well worth watching.

Taron Egerton definitely nailed it! A fantastic showcase of both beautiful music and moving story of a musical genius. The support from Jamie Bell, Richard Madden and even Bryce Dallas Howard completes the entertainment. I appreciate how the musicality and fancy production numbers envelopes the depth and seriousness of the subject, which reflects the suppressed feelings of sadness within Elton John as he tries to entertain his fans. I find the film a bit "incomplete" but I forgive it knowing that Elton John's life continues anyway. My only disappointment is that they skipped the part where he could have sung "Can't You Feel the Love Tonight".

Disappointingly familiar as far as musical biopics go these days. Taron Egerton is good enough as Elton John and the musical numbers are imaginative. To be honest, I'm not really an Elton John fan so instead of being entertained, I'm left wondering what's factual and what's artistic license. The story's pretty serious compared to similar films like Bohemian Rhapsody which covered similar territory yet still managed to be fun.

'Rocketman' is everything a musical biopic should be. Well, I wouldn’t really call it a biopic, as a musical told in a rated R fairy tale seems more appropriate. While occasionally falling into the “Walk The Line” of cliches, but never has a biopic be presented in such an extraordinary and yet sore fashion. Some things may be overly dramatized or just didn’t happen, but then again it is “based on a true fantasy”.
Taron Egerton as Elton John is perfect casting. I’m already aware that Egerton is a singer, and yet what surprised me the most was how much he sings just like Elton. No lip syncing or donkey teeth, just an honest portrayal of a national treasure. I hope Egerton gets some serious award …
