Plot: In post-WWII Hamburg, a British colonel, assigned to help rebuild the city, is joined by his wife during the bitter winter. Once she arrives, she learns her husband is not her only companion as the home's former owner, a German widower, along with his daughter, will be sharing their home. Stately period drama about a British couple forced to share lodging with a grieving widower after WW2. The performances are solid and the cinematography is very good. There's even a little wartime espionage intrigue thrown in. I like the direction for its elegance but I do wish it went further with the romantic tension of the situation.
