In this western, Clint Eastwood is a vengeful rancher-turned-lawman working with a ruthless judge (Hingle). He’s after the members of a posse that wrongly tried to lynch him. At the same time, as a U. S. Marshal he must dispense justice and bring in troublesome outlaws. The movie is actually more psychologically complex than expected. The treatment of frontier justice clashing with civilized law and order is an interesting dynamic. There’s an oddball cast of side characters who make things more amusing. Eastwood and Hingle are good as unlikely allies. Ed Begley is solid as the antagonistic leader of the lynch mob. Bruce Dern has a small but memorable role as a loathsome outlaw.

"They will all hang... HIGH". An innocent man is prosecuted and hung, but he doesn't die. Instead he comes back as a lawman and vigilante trying to bring justice to the town. Client Eastwood was a pure Bad-ass in the film like always and the movie is like kill bill but this movie came out before kill bill was made so kill bill was a rip-off of other different movie.

Made directly after Clint's successful collaborations with Sergio Leone, this is Hollywood's attempt to cash in on his newfound fame. Unfortunately it falls short of aping the spaghetti western classics thanks to efficient but artless direction and a less than stellar supporting cast. There's a memorable appearance by Dennis Hopper in an early role but his character is all too quickly disposed of, and the film stalls at exactly the wrong moment because of a rather pointless and logic-free romantic interlude. Clint's steely eyed charisma does manage to carry it though, and there are a couple of decent sequences, but the ending felt like a TV pilot and it comes …
