One of the most popular (and successful) firsts in franchise fantasy films, "The Sorcerer's Stone" is a satisfactory introduction to world of Hogwarts even though the amount of world building outweighs its amount of plot.

A little lighter than the later (and superior) films, but this was a great entry for the franchise. Pure magical fun!

This movie... has two version of the subtitle. I honestly don’t know why this is. But Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone. Overlong, but Likeable

And I was correct. Essentially, I got what I expected, which- in this case- isn't a bad thing, but is it unfair to have hoped for a bit more from one of the most famed film series of all time?
Harry Potter is an orphan child that is taken to Hogwarts (a school for wizards) upon being informed that he has magical abilities. Harry befriends Ron Weasely and Hermione Granger, and it isn't long until the trio discover a villainous plan to steal the Sorcerer's Stone.
As far as fantasy films go, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is pretty solid. A …

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone review
Daniel Corleone - wrote on 08/10/2011
As indicated in my review of Deathly Hallows: Part 1, I have never read the books, not even a huge fan of the franchise. I only had time to view the 1st of the successful franchise just recently. The character development/plot was decent; score was nothing special, visual effects were realistic but the pace of the film seems to drag in the middle. It was fascinating to see the origin story of Harry Potter, even the formation of his best friends Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley. Too many background characters involved and lacking of action made this film plain. If only the triumvirate personalities were well built-up since this was the beginning for one of the most popular and successful franchises on screen. A fun beginning to what’s to come, still has some humor and entertaining …
