Relentless and anxiety inducing drama about a NYC jeweler and gambling addict named Howard (Sandler) who is stuck with a great deal of trouble. He’s indebted to some nasty people, has to juggle an estranged wife and wild mistress, and retrieve a valuable gemstone from Kevin Garnett. No seriously, Kevin Garnett is in this, and honestly he’s not a bad actor. As for Adam Sandler, he’s flat out amazing in this. It’s a crime that he was not even nominated for an Oscar. I think he may have beaten Joaquin Phoenix if he was included that year. It’s a career best performance.

One of the nastiest films of 2019, the "Good Time" Safdie brothers strike yet again with another sordid scheme crime drama led by a brilliant against type performance.

Uncut Gems is not a pleasant film to watch - but it is quite effective at what it does. The Safdie Brothers don't hold back here, creating a film that is filled with tension and often feels quite claustrophobic but does so while being very loud - with creative use of language, city noise and music to create a cacophony of chaos. None of that would matter, however, if there wasn't a captivating story and characters to carry the load and lucky for us, Adam Sandler has taken this opportunity to turn in the greatest performance in his career. And he has some help - Idina Menzel, LaKeith Stanfield, Julia Fox and, yes, even Kevin Garnett are all along for this dark, twisted ride.

That’s a million dollar opal you are holding.
Straight from the Ethiopian Jewish tribe.
Are you in the middle of a nasty divorce? Or are you at home on sick leave because of burnout due to your stressful job that demands too much from you? Or are those two revolting teenagers at home, who go through puberty right now, making you so much upset that you almost have no fingernails anymore? Good advice! Ignore this movie and look for another soothing movie. Because “Uncut Gems” will certainly not be ideal for your peace of mind. I’m afraid that after 20 minutes you’ll be throwing snacks at the screen out of frustration while pulling your hair out of sheer desperation. Because it’s the most stressful film ever. It drives up the tension throughout the whole movie in a …

Uncut Gems - Review

“This is how *I* win.”
One of the most stressful movie experiences I’ve had in awhile.
This whole movie runs entirely on acid and how the series of events unfold was particularly stressful. People constantly talking or yelling over each other while the brilliant sound work made the space around them feel so tight, but incredibly claustrophobic.
While I like ‘Good Time’ a little more, but man what a rush.
Adam Sandler is absolutely terrific as the greedy and sleazy Howard Ratner. If he's working with a good director, a strong supporting cast, and an interesting concept, Sandler will thrive. We follow Howard Ratner, a jewelry store owner in New York with a serious gambling problem that makes the hole his standing in deeper and deeper. Despite every terrible decision …
