Plot: Carol Danvers has taken the mantel of Captain Marvel as well as taken revenge on the dangerous Kree and their Supreme Intelligence but in doing so, has destabilized the universe. A wormhole entangles her powers with that of New Jersey super-fan Kamala Khan - Ms. Marvel and that of her estranged niece, Captain Monica Rambeau. This is such a bloody mess

I don't want to give ammo to the haters. But this movie was not very good at all. All the production woes that were reported behind the scenes are readily apparent in the first act. This movie not only switches the characters but it switches tone on a dime. From action to drama to comedy to being a friggin musical at one part. It's jarring and obnoxious.
The villain (played by a game Zawe Ashton) does actually have a fascinating motivation on paper, but she is saddled with cliched villainous dialogue.
The special effects are not as terrible as the trailers suggest but the movie is visually not that memorable for a movie that reportedly cost more than $200M. A key plot point is that the three main lead actresses switch places with each other (for reasons). It comes and goes when the …

Even though box office numbers would have you think that The Marvels is scraping the bottom of the MCU barrel, I don't think it's the worst MCU film - I don't even think it's the worst MCU film of 2023 (Quantumania was a much bigger letdown IMO). As many reviewers have pointed out before me, The Marvels is fun - but this also means it doesn't feel like a major entry into the cannon. It feels a bit... slight, but I don't think that translates to bad but those hoping for the gravity of something like Endgame or even a Guardians of the Galaxy sequel - well, it's not that and I can understand why you want to wait for streaming.
While you don't have to watch WandaVision or Ms. Marvel to enjoy the film, I will say that previously viewing of the two series does help flesh out both the back …
