As ludicrous as the premise sounds, Cocaine Bear is just a lot of fun - but it doesn't skimp on the gore, either, so prepare for that R rating accordingly. As a final film for Ray Liotta - it was a decent send-off.

Its madness levels drop the moment the drug-fueled mammal from its title is off screen, but "Cocaine Bear" lives up to its outrageous premise just well enough to earn a place on the cult-hit shelf.

Elizabeth Banks knows how to deliver black comedy violence and she knows her way around a good gag. The film both gains and losses points for a rather aggressive amount of queer subtext because, well, why the hell is it subtext? You think our minds aren't ready for the Dada knife gang absolutely demolishing each other in bed? You just showed us a woman faceplant concrete at 60km/h, we can handle more than one type of bear in your Cocaine Bear movie.

Not quite as insane as I hoped it would be, but it has its share of memorably weird or crazy moments. Even if the bear never once looks realistic;the CGI is really cheesy. The ambulance chase is a highlight. Another thing I will give the movie praise for is being surprisingly grisly even for a horror comedy. Some characters die gruesome deaths in this.
Some of the cast is better than they should be. Keri Russell is good as a mom looking for her lost daughter while the drug addicted bear is on the loose. After his failed outing as a leading man in SOLO, Alden Ehrenreich shows that he still retains some comedic timing and deliver a decent performance.
It's far more silly than actually scary, but for audiences who know exactly what kind of movie they're in for, they will get their money's …
