Stunning followup that reignites the 'Planet of the Apes' franchise while delivering the action and spectacle. It gives fans a new villain who is an excellent antagonist. But for once, there is a human character (played by Freya Allan) that is just as interesting as the ape conflict. The mo-cap CGI on the apes is outstanding. Surprised to see the plot allow for some moral ambiguity w/o going into spoiler territory. Even for an IP as old as this one, I am excited about the next movie.

I can appreciate the technical marvel and vision behind it, but when that is all a movie has to offer and it gets in the way of good storytelling, I lose interest. Add that to the mostly unoriginal story, predictable watered down message, and excruciatingly uninteresting protagonist, and you have something I didn't absolutely hate but can't say it was worth my time either. When it comes to blockbuster dystopian allegories about political and religious extremism, I think I will just stick with "Dune: Part Two."

Along with his friends Anaya (Travis Jeffery) and Soona (Lydia Peckham), their traverse the overgrown ruins of mankind and climb high to claim the egg of an eagle for themselves - one they will raise as their own.
But the ruins hold something surprising - echoes (aka humans) - who nearly never venture this far into their lands. When one such echo happens to show up in the village late at night, Noa loses his hard-caught egg and must venture back into the city late at night to find …
