"The Super Mario Bros. Movie" doesn't have the layers or lofty aims of animated films like "The LEGO Movie" or "Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse." But it works just fine as a vivacious and eager-to-please bit of bubblegum entertainment inspired by the beloved video game franchise.

"We're the Mario brothers, and plumbing's our game We're not like the others who gets all the fame If your sink is in trouble, you can call us on the double We're faster than the others, you'll be hooked on the Brother's Unh!" I'm happy that this song is in the movie. The film itself? Not great but not terrible. It's colorful and decent. Chris Pratt was far from the worst part. If you are a fan of the original video games, this won't make you "Bob Hoskins-type" rage.

Okay so let's start by saying I loved the movie I thought it was epic and laugh out loud funny the story here never really ran dry and plot moved quick as a wink and the characters were awesome okay that being said I think it's a perfect Easter film but parents be mindful it's not rated PG for nothing at all there's a ton of violence here and peril that may traumatize the smallest of kids please sit close to the snack bar Incase you need a snack outing if you do take tinys but aside from that it's a wonderful film

Box office juggernaut that felt thoroughly generic

Weird how this movie was such a big hit despite its extremely bland characterization and by-the-numbers plotting. As far as 2023 video game movies go, I wish the new Dungeons & Dragons was a bigger success. I will credit the movie animation for being honestly beautiful to look at. The world of Super Mario Bros. has not looked better on film. Certainly better than the 1993 live-action misfire.
But it's a shame that the actual story is so forgettable and the characters are so one-note despite their iconic status. Jack Black stands out as the one good vocal performance as the evil Bowser. Chris Pratt and Anya Taylor-Joy are kind of just phoning it in as 'plucky hero' and 'spunky heroine'. Charlie Day on paper should be a slam dunk as Luigi but he's actually pretty annoying in this. Seth …

While you can't say The Super Mario Bros. Movie is especially ground-breaking or even an exceptional animated film, what you can say is that it's the perfect family treat - bright and action-packed to keep the kids happy and with enough nostalgia and Easter eggs to keep Nintendo fans and adults entertained along the way.
The premise is simple, a pair of brothers from Brooklyn, Mario (Chris Pratt) and Luigi (Charlie Day) have decided to start their own business and even though their first job is does not exactly go as planned, Mario sees opportunity when a major flood in Brooklyn means they can save the day - and get major exposure. But these heroics will have to wait as they find a seemingly abandoned underground complex of pipes - one that leads to adventure - or at least another …
