Damn near unwatchable dreck overwrought with uninspired mayhem that's more tiresome than entertaining, and one-note characters who are constantly competing with each other to be the most annoying of the bunch. "Borderlands" wants to be the "Guardians of the Galaxy" of video game movies, but it's more like the "Suicide Squad" 2016.

Another casualty in the video game movie genre

This movie was not very good but I’ll admit it was not as horrible as I expected. It was just very poorly edited. You can tell they cut out the blood and gore from the action scenes to make it a PG-13. If it was kept rated R then it might have felt a bit more complete and less choppy.
Director Eli Roth notoriously abandoned the film post-production and Tim Miller (Deadpool) had to do reshoots. Boy can you tell this movie was deeply troubled in the editing process. It had unnecessary narration by Cate Blanchett who sounds very bored. Things just sort of happen and there is a twist which is not as surprising as the movie hopes it is.
Cate Blanchett is too old for her part. But she mostly comes out unscathed. Mainly because she looks so irritated about even being in the movie. I …

If they would have followed the actual video game AND made it rated R AND done a better job of casting... maybe it would have turned out better. I think even Eli Roth knew it was a losing proposition when he bailed to direct Thanksgiving (a pretty good throwback slasher IMO). I can't wait to stream this and hate-watch.

Amazing how poorly this movie did for revenue. Hope the next game doesn't follow that trend.
