Kind of Rambo meets Walking Tall - but in a more modern setting. Aaron Pierre makes for a compelling lead and, no lie, Don Johnson was pretty good as the corrupt head of small-town police force. It had a few good twists thrown in for good measure and, surprisingly for an action flick, no on-screen deaths. While it may move a tad bit slow for some, I appreciated the actual story and if you want something with a little more bite, it does the trick.

"Rebel Ridge" is a top-shelf pressure cooker thriller with a substantial x-factor that allows it to transcend typical genre pictures. It's similar to the Sylvester Stallone vehicle "First Blood," except updates its message of the disregard for Vietnam servicemen with a more modern one about the abuse of police authority and the insanity of corrupt policies like civil forfeiture.

Not familiar with this director's other work, but this was a pretty good action movie. Not just by Netflix standards, but it was genuinely thrilling and suspenseful. Aaron Pierre shows promise as an action lead.
