A great film in my opinion, "The Invasion" was a tiresome account of Body Snatchers - a group of aliens that take over your body like puppeteers as soon as you fall asleep. What I appreciated most out of the film was its devotion to the main foil of the plot: Don't Fall Asleep. Nicole Kidman's interpretation of an increasingly desperate mother hoping to save her son from this horror that ensues outside was authentic and genuine. A great thriller with a stellar performance by co-star Jeffrey Wright (this was the first time I saw him outside of "Angels in America"), although I will disclaim that Daniel Craig is just star power here - utterly useless when it came to the story.

Considering how much I really dislike Nicole Kidman, The Invasion wasn't as bad as I was expecting. There's nothing new here, but it was adequate enough to sustain my interest. Still, a rehash does not a better movie make.

This weak butchering of the classic story has a few intense moments, but the cast is entirely thankless (most notably Jeffrey Wright and Daniel Craig) and the finale is tepid and disappointing. Final Grade: C

"The Invasion" by Yojimbo

Washington psychiatrist Nicole Kidman begins to notice changes in her clients which leads her to believe that the human race is being over run by an alien intelligence. In yet another remake (of a remake) of a classic, The Invasion is guilty of the usual Hollywood crimes of putting flash above substance and dumbing down. Although the film looks good, the director is in far too much of a hurry to cut to the chase (literally) at the expense of tension or the build up of suspense, and there is far too much pseudo science and not enough invention in its approach to the concept. I'm in no way a fan of Nicole Kidman, but she's not too bad here (although my cynical side would say that she's had a lot of practice acting like an emotionless drone) but she's still not a strong enough presence to …

Pretty Solid

Nicole Kidman is usually an ice queen (in a good way) but it's nice to see her here as a vulnerable mother whose sole goal is to save her son. I did like the style of the film--a bit distant and cold but not too much; I found the scenes where the filmmakers would shoot in wide spaces to be both lonely and scary. There were a lot of eerie scenes so I don't know what the critics are complaining about. I did care for the characters and I found their "scientific" explanations about the alien lifeform to be fascinating. I think the problem with remakes or interpretations is that people have the tendency to compare them to the original. I don't do that most of the time because, in my opinion, one has to let a film stand on its own. So, I found myself sitting back and enjoying what this film …

Not as crappy as people think

Much better than I expected. Nicole Kidman was really effective in this movie both as a loving mother and a scientist/psychiatrist. I thought they did just the right amount of explaining and at the right times. This is what commonly ruins movies like this and is what ruined War of the Worlds, so I was glad they didn't fall into that trap.
At times it was pretty intense and as a triller it was really good. I thought how the aliens took over humans a bit cheesy yet it didn't ruin the movie. But seriously, throwing up on people to infect them is a bit odd. You would think the smart aliens would spread it in a better manner. Like no one would notice people throwing up in their coffee at a press conference. Does their vomit taste like honey??
Even with many of the flaws it had, the …
