t really didn't take a lot to impress movie fans of the 80s. "Lethal Weapon" is the poster child of the buddy cop genre, but as beloved as it is, it's hardly masterpiece material.

Quite possibly the first "buddy cop movie." If it wasn't, it's still the best. What a great film. Mel Gibson is at his brash, fairly young, great. And Danny Glover is good as well. Gary Busey, played the role he was meant to play, the villain that feels no pain. I loved everything about this film. A must-see.

"Lethal Weapon" by Yojimbo

A veteran detective is paired up with a burnt out cop with a death wish when investigating the murder of the daughter of one of his old Vietnam war buddies. Lethal Weapon was probably the film that perfected the Hollywood buddy cop formula and is yet another example of the macho excesses of the 1980s. All mullets, machine guns, drug abuse, explosions and gratuitous nudity while the wise cracking super cops get bare chested and find one excuse after another to blast, bludgeon and brutalise bad guys so irredeemably evil you don't have to worry about anything so trite as their civil rights (or right to stay breathing for that matter!) It was popular enough to warrant three sequels and endures still, mainly because of the winning chemistry between Danny Glover's dismayed old timer and …

Best Buddy Flick Franchise!!

Lethal Weapon caught me and everybody completely off guard. It was a film that no one saw coming. Mel Gibson was known for his work on the Mad Max films but he was still relatively obscure in Hollywood. Danny Glover was more or less a serious actor, hence his role in Color Purple. But could anyone have been prepared for what this movie accomplished? Could you be prepared for what it has spawned and created? Lethal Weapon is a tour de force of action and comedy. Richard Donner will be forever remembered for his role in this movie. But to me, as terrific as his direction is and as amazing as Gibson and Glover are and as terrific as a script that Shane Black has written, there is one unsung hero in this film and many other films that have entertained us for the last 20 years. The action is …

Undercover Los Angeles Police Officer "Sergeant Martin Riggs" is too close to taking his life over the death of his wife, who was killed in a car bombing meant for him. And just as he is about to pull the trigger to end it all, something enters his head and makes him put the gun down. He is quite unstable, and nobody wants to be his partner.
On the other hand, "Sgt. Roger Murtaugh" (Danny Glover), who works in Homicide, is stable, with a wonderful family. He has turned 50, and wants to make it to his retirement. To his surprise, he is given a new partner, a partner nobody wants to work with -- "Riggs."
An old buddy of "Murtaugh" wants him to kill those responsible for giving his daughter the drugs that pushed her into jumping off a high-rise. These bad guys are lead by "General …
