Carrey handles the drama with ease and the movie itself is decent, but it's long runtime feels undeniably slow and it tires to hard to be sentimental.

From what I can remember of it, it's a good movie with a fantastic anti-McCarthyism theme to it.

a sweet movie that makes me miss the theater that I went to as a kid (they tore it down). Seeing Bruce Campbell in the movie that Jim Carrey's character wrote, is worth giving this at least one viewing.

Jim Carrey in a serious role

While a lot of people didn't like this movie because Jim Carrey was playing a more serious role, I thought he was brilliant in it. He showed exactly how wide a range of characters he can produce. The story is about screenwriter names Peter Appleton during the early 50's. Appleton was accused of communism for having attended a meeting that he was dragged to by his girlfriend when he was in college. Before he was supposed to be questioned by congress about his involvement in a communist organization, he is in a car accident in which he nearly drowns. When he revives he doesn't remember who he is, and he is found by a man walking on the beach who believes that Appleton is his son that left to fight in World War II and never returned.
