So, this is the Longest Yard with English people and soccer instead of football . . . and it works. A really enjoyable movie that is funny and keeps you entertained despite the familiar plot. Vinnie Jones really stands out as Danny. Worth watching even if you don't love football . . .or I suppose if you don't care for the English . . .

Mean machine is a UK remake of the longest yard (1974 Burt Reynolds) and it is actually a really enjoyable movie to watch it revolves around Danny Meehan a former captain of the england football team who is banned from the league for fixing a match between England and Germany after assaulting two police officers while intoxicated he sentenced 3 years in prison pretty much you can guess the rest if you seen the US remake from 2005 starring Adam Sandler and Chris Rock it differs only a little but i will say that i like this incarnation best Vinnie Jones is great but its not a long stretch him playing a wise cracking English footballer if you have not seen this movie i strongly recommend

Mean Machine review

Definitely for soccer fanatics mixed with spectacular direction which feels like a music video. The film revolves a football star named Danny "The Mean Machine" Meehan (Vinnie Jones) who is jailed for assaulting two officers. Monk (Jason Statham) could have had more screen-time since the character was interesting. The simple plot made the film short and the humor was not as effective. Highlights were the action in the actual game and upbeat soundtrack. Jason Statham was clearly underutilized here and some of the antagonists seemed ridiculous. The drama elemet felt forced to make the game more intense in the conclusion. Mean Machine could have been better with a more solid screenplay and better character development which such a loaded cast.
