"M:I-3" is not only as electrifying as the first two, but also much darker and emotionally satisfying.

R.I.P. Philip Seymour Hoffman. Super spy agent is back again as he tries to protect his girlfriend from an arms dealer who has a way of giving headaches. This movie as action and a cliche villain... nice.

JJ Abrams injects a fair amount of character development into the third Mission: Impossible film, diving deeper than before into the relationships between the spy team. Cruise's relationship with his new wife is one of the film's successful surprises. The action, of course, also doesn't disappoint as explosions and fight scenes abound.

I was quite impressed with Brian De Palma's original Mission Impossible; it was a cleverly scripted and well cast spy movie with all the right ingredients. The second was okay too; much more of a dumbed down action film, but still tongue in cheek enough to be fun. I'd heard that the third instalment was a return to the more intricately plotted original. But guess what? I'd heard wrong. What we have here is Ethan Hunt blowing stuff up, jumping off buildings and hanging from helicopters, sharing only the most rudimentary militaristic "op" speak with his James Bond tag-team; otherwise they barely interact with each other. Add a wedding ceremony that's straight out of Independence day and a "twist" that's so obvious a 5 year old could guess it, and what you have is basically True Lies …

"Alias" is written all over this film. From the camera angles, exotic locations, to the chicanery of both heroes and villains, it's such a delight to see more of J.J. Abrams' talent after "Alias" ended. What I liked about this film most is the seemingly neverending action scenes. The second one lacked the subtly of the first and the pure adrenaline of this one, which makes it the weakest. But this one and the first film stand out because they are opposites. This picture is more in-your-face, fast-paced, and unpredictable. Nonetheless, this film could've been better if its tone was a bit darker like in the first film. If this movie was half espionage and half pure action, reaching some sort of balance, it would have been unstoppable. Still, it's not bad at all and I believe that this is …
