When he begins a relationship with a new woman, she lashes out, but her friend Thomas Sennett is always there to help, as well as an English teacher she's trying to impress by joining a summer writing course. This movie started sweet and harmless but then the movie switches gears to wards the end which the ending is upsetting.

This movie came out when I was 11 years old. This is a great summer movie, and I have seen it at least once every summer since 1991. As an adult, I am still drawn to what I was when I was a kid. This movie has you laughing one minute and crying the next. It is a sweet tale about a girl and her friend going through the pains and joys of growing up. Chlumsky and Culkin give two great performances. They are believable kids, and are not too fake or too cute, a trap that many child stars fall into. Dan Aykroyd does a great job as the tuba playing father. I consider this movie a modern classic and a movie that every 11-year-old girl (and former 11-year-old) girl should see.

Vada Sultenfuss (Anna Chlumsky) is a young girl, who's mother died when she was very young. Vada lives with her father (Dan Aykroyd), who runs a funeral parlour. It's the summer time and Vada goes on a poetry class held by her school English teacher, who she falls in love with. Vada's best friend is Thomas J (Macaulay Culkin), who hangs out with Vada over the summer and is also allergic to almost everything. When new arrival, Shelly, a makeup expert, is hired by her father to work at the funeral parlour, he begins to fall in love with her, Vada gets really angry and doesn't want anyone, especially Shelly to replace her mother, so she does everything she can to try and break them up.
The acting was great, the story itself is a classic film that really makes you think about life and …
