Slim and underwhelming, especially for a movie about a notorious gang of train and bank robbers.

The Newton Boys has an amiable cast of well known actors right as they were becoming big name stars. We got Matthew McConaughey, Ethan Hawke, Skeet Ulrich, and Vincent D'onofrio playing a foursome of brothers who robbed banks in the 1920s. Based off a true story, the Newton brothers became the most successful bank robbers in American history; all four actually surviving their criminal career and only serving jail time. Spoilers sorry. It's too bad the movie isn't more memorable or daring with its characters' true life exploits. It's harmless but gangster movies should have more teeth to them.
