There are so many things that went wrong with this picture so I’m going to start with the positive. The set design wasn’t too shabby. Now that I got that out of the way, let me start off with the title: there was no point in calling this “The Phantom of the Opera” because the story could have been from any other horror film that has something to do with a deformed creature stalking the girl of his dreams. Also, the audience expects a certain movie because the title is from a popular classic film and a musical. Robert Englund is supposed to play The Phantom… but he’s more like Fred Krueger here–killing whoever gets on his way, most of the time unnecessarily so. Jill Schoelen, the leading actress, is a bit amateur-ish but she’s likeable enough. As for the music, it’s …
