Another generic horror B-movie from Carpenter, with all his usual strengths and weaknesses in evidence. Some nice ideas and a decent aura of suspense, but slightly amateurish execution and production design. Decent but unspectacular.

This is a horror movie about ideas rather than just straight-up scares. The story combines science with spiritual beliefs in an intriguing way. There is a slow build of atmosphere that leads to surprising and unnerving moments that stayed with me later. A very underrated creep show.
