"The Graduate" for the Reagan generation, "Risky Business" is a seminal teen movie coated in a oily 80s sheen.

Risky Business is one of those movies that people seen and loved but I am the one who think the movie is alright.

80s comedy of manners that enjoys a cult following, but I found unfunny and uninvolving. And like Pretty Woman, seems to be suggesting that the best way for a woman to get what she wants is to become a prostitute.

Risky Business ist ein Film über männliche Schuld. Sie tritt zum ersten Mal auf während der Adoleszenz. Mit anderen Worten: Risky Business ist eine Komödie! Paul Brickmans Film ist deshalb so witzig, weil er seine Lacher aus Situationen zieht, die wir alle mal qualvoll erlebt haben. Vieles hat mich berührt, weil ich ja weiss: Es ist unmöglich, sich dagegen zu stemmen - insbesondere dann nicht, wenn man ein Teenager ist! Der Teenager im Film heisst Joel (Tom Cruise in seiner ersten grossen Rolle!) und lebt im Vorort von Chicago. Seine Eltern haben drei Autos; den Familien Van, Mamas Auto und Daddys Porsche. Zu Beginn des Films brechen sie auf in die Ferien und unterrichten Joel, was er währenddessen zu tun und zu lassen hat. Joels Leben in dieser Phase steckt voller Arbeit, denn er …

It's the movie that put Tom Cruise on the map, Top Gun (1986) would make him a star. Just 20 years old and fresh out of high school, even at this early stage in his career you could see the Cruise charm shining through in that smirk.
The movie takes a satirical look at the boy who has everything, but in reality has nothing. The most telling scene in the film, not the most famous that would be the lip-synching scene to the Bob Seger classic Old Time Rock and Roll, is when Cruise is sitting around playing cards with his friends (Bronson Pinchot pre-Perfect Strangers and the actor who would go on to play Booger in Revenge of the Nerds), and the question is asked, something to the extent of, "Why do you want to go to college?"
